Dear FAMU,

To whom I love so much, tears are brought to my eyes when
I hear our alma mata. It was not by accident that I came to Florida A&M University. I like to think of it more as divine intervention. Upon arrival at FAMU my foundation was immediately built, working hard for my freshman class and later being crowned Miss Freshman Attendant. That sealed the foundation of my life on the hill. After the foundation was built I yearned to give more, my heart was filled with a hunger to reach out to the lady rattlers of FAMU. I decided to become a resident assistant and was placed in McGuinn/Diamond hall. Every night I have spent there, for the past three years has been momentous.

Staying up late, talking residents through their situations, or giving kind words of encouragement inspired me to want even more. I then decided to join S.G.A where I served as Deputy Secretary of State my sophomore year. Listening to the needs and concerns of not only my residents, but the entire student body at FAMU. Simetaneously I was also planning encouraging programs that amazed me but yet I still wanted to give back more. With over 300 community service hours completed, I challenged myself everyday to want to give more. I then decided to launch a mentoring program within the residential halls. I founded the mentoring program, “Sister 2 Sister,” where each freshman is paired with a sophomore as a fellowship. Each sister had a big sister to call on for ANYTHING.

As I matriculated at FAMU, God begin to open various doors for me. Once I received the honor of giving the opening prayer for Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. I knew then more than ever that God was rapidly developing me into the leader he wanted me to be at FAMU. I have continuously been inspired to encourage a larger group of students which is what brings me here today. I want to give more than me or you could ever imagine, I want to give all of my love, service, and dedication to Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. I promise to stay sweet today, sweet tomorrow,
and sweet forever...
